A number of years ago, we were meeting with a department to discuss their proposed project and its scope and requirements. They were unhappy with the way their office was working, but wanted us to reproduce their current antiquated processes. They resisted looking at it in a new way or to discuss any improvements until we suggested, “Let’s shake the tree and see what falls out.” We have used this phrase since then as a tongue and cheek reminder that while change is often difficult, we need to encourage change and improvement. Everyone, whether an organization, team, relationship or single person, needs some help during their journey. We understand change does not have to be radical or huge to be challenging and scary. We all need some support to help us change, improve and grow in a strong but safe manner. Let’s shake your tree together and see what falls out.
